Wimbledon 2024 ladies’ singles final result: Barbora Krejcikova wins her second Grand Slam title with victory over Jasmine Paolini on Centre Court

She says she doesn't have any words right now and it's difficult to explain how she feels right now.

She admits it's definitely the best day of her tennis career and thebest day of her life.

She says congrats to Paolini and acknowledges how close it was in the end and how impressive the Italian's run to the French Open final and Wimbledon is.

She says people back home won't believe it and speaks about her late, great mentor Jana Novotna.

Jasmine says it's a dream come true to play in this stadium.

She congratulates Barbora and says she played 'unbelievable.'

The 28-year-old Italian says the last two months - her runs to the French Open and Wimbledon finals - have been crazy for her and thanks her family for their support.

She praises the crowd and states that she enjoyed their support too.

She says she tries to keep smiling: 'I have to remember today is still a good day. As a kid, I used to look at the final on the TV cheering for (Roger) Federer, so to be here right now is crazy. I enjoyed every moment here."

Barbora Krejcikova secures the second major singles title of her career and becomes a Wimbledon singles champion for the very first time.

The Czech No.31 seed serves out a topsy-turvy final from deuce on her third MP in one hour and 56 minutes to vanquish the Italian No.7 seed and add the 2024 SW19 title to the Roland-Garros one she won in 2021.

The former World No.2’s triumph is all the more impressive given that she had been struggling with injury and illness for much of this season, winning just three matches across five months coming into this tournament.

Barbora is two points from the title at 30-0 but gets twitchy with a double fault and then fires two tight backhands long to offer up break back point.

Sharp work at the net pulls her to deuce and she clocks up MP when Paolini can only block a massive forehand long…

But wait.

The Czech fizzes a backhand long and then Paolini jumps on a stun volley to rasp away the forehand pass and earn a second break back point.

Krejcikova recovers with a crisp crosscourt forehand and notches up a second MP with a timely ace...

The No.31 seed undoes her hard work with a weak slice into the net but gets a third opportunity when Jasmine misses a return...

Jasmine stands firm and gives herself one last chance to bite back and keep her bid for a first major title alive.

The Italian shows more great hands at the net to cut the ball dead in the air and then finds a big, wide serve to edge the game to 30.

Krejcikova will now serve for the title.

Paolini’s Wimbledon dream is under huge threat now.

Krejcikova has had her Mojo flowing on serve all the way through this decider and she again blitzes through a clean hold to consolidate and move to within a game of the title.

Paolini is the first to blink on serve as Barbora ups the ante with a forehand winner to earn the first break point of the decider.

Krejcikova slices long to allow the Italian to deuce but a deep, probing forehand lures an error on the run from the No.7 seed, who double faults on the second BP to hand the Czech the initiative.

Krejcikova takes the lead in the ace race with No.3 and 4 and a couple of forehand winners do the rest of the work as she shrugs off the double fault to quickly level.

The games are racing by as if building towards the crescendo…

We can hope anyway, as Krecikova coughs up cheap, avoidable errors on the return to allow the Italian to romp through a perfect hold.

The good news for Barbora fans is the first serve continues to land and the forehand is probing and finding lines again.

As a result, Paolini can’t get as look-in and the former French Open champion darts through another love hold.

Jasmine keeps the Czech at arm’s length with a hold to 30 that keeps that board ticking in her favour.

Barbora’s first serve went AWOL in the second set, but it reignites at an important juncture here as a second ace and some hefty deliveries power her to a morale-boosting clean hold of her own.

Krejcikova left court between sets to try and reset, but it doesn’t appear to have had the same effect on her (yet).

Paolini continues to play aggressive tennis, constantly pressing on that forehand as she rushes through a clean hold to take charge of the board in the decider.

Krejcikova drills a backhand attempt down the line long and then has some rotten look as she digs out a net cord with a drop shot that lands just wide. It’s called in, but Jasmine challenges and it is… OUT.

It’s significant as it offers up two set points and the Czech obliges with a weak backhand into the tramlines.

What a contrast between sets – but who will take charge in the all-important decider?

The No.7 seed continues to fire on all cylinders off both flanks, but the forehand is particularly potent.

Krejcikova’s patterns aren’t having the same effect as the Italian steps into the court to take time away with aggressive, big-hitting that carries her through another strong hold for the loss of one point.

Krejcikova lands an ace down the T to take charge at 40-15 and then repeats the delivery for a service winner after Paolini had stretched into an astonishing forehand return down the line to briefly crank up the temperature.

A second ace of the day and a couple of ferocious forehand winners do the trick as the Italian concludes a dominant hold to 15 with another loud ‘Come On!’
