GAME, SET AND MATCH! - SINNER 6-3 6-4 7-5 FRITZ
Jannik Sinner is the 2024 US Open champion!
The top seed was far too solid throughout and he breaks on a first match point to complete a straight sets victory in two hours and 16 minutes.
The 23-year-old becomes the first Italian man to win the US Open singles title and the first player since Guillermo Vilas in 1977 to claim his first two Grand Slams in the same year ( Sinner also lifted January's Australian Open).
It proved to be a bridge too far for Fritz, who was a heavy underdog, and never really looked like ending the USA’s wait for a first Open champion since 2003.

Fritz must now hold to stay in the tournament.

The No.12 seed is suddenly finding new gears he didn’t seem to have and more aggressive groundstrokes lead to a couple of volleys that earn him two break points.

SINNER 6-3 6-4 2-1 FRITZ
‘Here we go, Taylor. Keep fighting, come on. This point,’ is the repeated message from the Fritz camp.
