2024 US Open semi-final result: World Number One Jannik Sinner beats Great Britain’s Jack Draper in straight sets at Arthur Ashe Stadium to reach Sunday's final

Jack Draper’s fantastic US Open run comes to an end.

The British No.1 gave it everything in a physically gruelling battle that saw the No.25 seed repeatedly vomit on court.

Top seed, Sinner also suffered in a tight contest before easing clear in the third, breaking twice, to clinch victory in three hours and three minutes.

Australian Open champion Sinner will now meet Taylor Fritz or Frances Tiafoe in Sunday’s final.

Sinner consolidates with a hold to love and is now just one game away from his second Grand Slam final of the year.

Draper is giving the impression that he is picking the moments to engage the after burners as he tries to conserve energy.

He does it at 15-30 here, unloading a series of superb forehands before a crosscourt mid-court finish.

It doesn’t lay the platform for another rescue act, however, as Sinner despatches back-to-back backhand winners to finally make the breakthrough and suggest there’s not much mileage left in this semi-final now.

The top seed is making short work of his service games now though.

It’s a routine hold to love that keeps the board ticking over in the Italian's favour.

Sinner must have been hoping he had killed off the Brit's spirit in that second-set breaker, but Jack is still fighting hard.

Draper tries to ignite a recovery bid and convince his body there’s more to play for as he sizzles a backhand winner in the opening point.

Jannik retorts by reeling off four routine points in a row to quickly nudge the board in the fledgling moments of the third.

Sinner fancies killing this match off right here, right now with the early break and he threatens at 30-40 with a crushing forehand down the line.

The Italian picks up Jack’s dropper but jabs the Brit’s crosscourt pass into the net.

Draper pulls off a beauty of a volley to wrestle the momentum his way and then nails an ace to get on the board.

Draper offers little resistance when he finally returns to court after a much-needed comfort break between sets.

Sinner double faults but also crashes down a ninth ace as he cruises through a hold to 15 to kick off Set 3.

Sinner takes the breaker 7-3 and is one set away from the final.

A fatigued and visibly unwell Jack Draper surely hasn't got much left in the tank.

The top seed steps up a gear at the start of the breaker to clock up a couple of mini breaks and lead 4-0.

Draper guesses right on a pass to angle away a volley and get on the board but he drills a forehand wide seconds later and is way off the pace at the change of ends.

There’s a mid-game discussion as Jack vomits on the court again.

He shrugs as the umpire insists on the surface being cleaned properly.

Sinner initially loses focus at 30-0 with a forehand into the net, but quickly takes care of the next couple of points to take us into a breaker.

Jack hammers a tremendous forehand winner down the line and pops in a sixth ace and another hefty delivery to nudge through a game to 30 and guarantee himself the minimum of a tie break.

Sinner looks fine following an assessment of the left wrist.

Indeed, he quickly lands a flurry of big first serves and squares the set at five apiece with a game to 15.

Drama!

It’s all happening out there.

Jack wants to see the Dr after vomiting earlier – but now the trainer is due to see Sinner too.

It all comes to a head at 40-15 as Jannik takes a tumble on the defence and lands on his left hand. He somehow gets to his feet to pounce on Draper’s bounce smash and sizzle away an astonishing winner.

However, the top seed is in real pain with that left wrist and hammers the next return off court so he can take a seat and get treatment.

Draper looks far from well but his tennis suggests otherwise.

The No.25 seed presses to deuce with a succession of booming forehands before securing the point with the deftest of backhand drop volleys.

Sinner is put under the cosh as Draper vomits and cleans up his own mess between points.

The Italian doesn’t allow the scenes at the other end of the court to distract him and a crushing forehand down the line is followed by a clutch serve to edge him out of a tricky predicament.

Draper has looked exhausted since the end of Set 1 but he remains defiant.

A tired backhand gives Sinner more to chew on at 30-30 but a marvellous stun volley lures a close-range error into the net from the top seed before he again fails from the forecourt to allow the British No.1 to edge a hold once again.

This pattern simply has to change if Jack is to somehow turn this match around.

The British No.1’s service games have been a ordeal while Jannik is now cruising through holds.

It’s another love one here that sees the top seed comfortably achieve parity.

It all goes pear-shaped from a commanding situation at 40-15.

Jack unleashes a forehand long and then throws in back-to-back double faults to suddenly face BP at deuce.

Sinner fails to convert with a return just wide and once again Draper somehow claws his way out of trouble to keep his nose in front.

The first three games of this set were attritional affairs, but Sinner will be delighted this was nothing of the sort.

The top seed charges through a clean hold to quickly level matters.
