ASKED ABOUT TEAM WORLD'S NICKNAME FOR HIM OF FED '05 (ROGER FEDERER'S SEASON WIDELY CONSIDERED TO BE THE BEST EVER BY A MAN), HE ADDED:
"I'm too far from that level. Hopefully I could reach it one day. But it's impossible.

GAME, SET AND MATCH! - ALCARAZ 6-2 7-5 FRITZ
Alcaraz serves it out on his second match point to win in straight sets and lead Europe to a 13-11 success over Team World.
The Spaniard was in scintillating form for much of the one hour and 29 minute contest and caps his first Laver Cup by ensuring Bjorn Borg signs off with a fifth title as Captain.

ALCARAZ SERVING FOR THE MATCH…
Carlitos is a little passive with the crosscourt slice and can only jab off the island under pressure after Fritz's volley left him with too much to do.
The World No.3 responds with a wonderful, angled volley under pressure before a big serve puts him in charge at 30-15.
Taylor then hammers a mid-court forehand into the net and it’s TWO match (Championship) points for Team Europe…
Alcaraz has it on his Racquet on the first but fluffs the volley - but he gets it done on the second!

BREAK! – ALCARAZ 6-2 6-5 FRITZ
Alcaraz’s dip appears to be over – and Team World are now starting down the barrel.
The Spaniard turns up the temperature with a superb backhand winner to push hard at 0-30.
Fritz finds some big serves to square the game but extra zip in the forehand forces the error to tee up break point and once again Taylor crumbles.
Alcaraz is back in the driving seat and will now serve for the match – and the Laver Cup!

Alcaraz tries to steady the ship as he sandwiches Fritz’s terrific crosscourt drop-shot with a big serve and an ace.
The Spaniard then drags a backhand wide to feel more heat at 30-30, but somehow digs out a low backhand flick on the backfoot in the ensuing rally to force an error out of Fritz at the net.
A forehand down the line clinches the game in style and keeps the World No.3’s bid to finish this in straight sets alive.

Taylor makes sure he doesn’t waste the chance, delivering huge first serves and finishing off a dominant love hold with an emphatic smash.

Fritz has had to be patient, waiting so long for Alcaraz to drop from such a Halcyon level.
It finally arrives and it’s a big drop-off.
The Spaniard pretty much breaks himself with a slice wide and then two overcooked forehands to give Team World and glimmer of hope.

Alcaraz threatens again with sensational feel on a stun volley that Fritz can’t get near to press at 15-30.
Fritz retorts with a couple of huge serves but then nets a forehand.
The American coughs up a break point with a double fault but staves it off with a timely ace.
It’s a dangerous moment for the American, but Alcaraz makes a hash of a half volley and then clips a forehand into the net to let him off the hook.

It’s back to the routine for Alcaraz as he comfortably notches up a hold to 15 to maintain his advantage and edge ever close to landing the Laver Cup for Team Europe.

Taylor keeps sticking to his guns on what works well for him, landing big serves and unleashing heavy groundstrokes.
Alcaraz wins the point of the game with a ridiculous backhand, crosscourt flick on the stretch at his baseline almost facing away from the net.
It has the Team Europe bench guffawing in delight, but it’s the only point he wins as Fritz stays in contention.

To his credit, Fritz comes out all guns blazing on the return and finally puts Alcaraz under serious pressure.
The Spaniard thinks he’s made a crosscourt forehand at 30-30 but Taylor challenges … and it’s out!
Alcaraz wipes out the BP with a ridiculously good forehand to the postage stamp and hits clutch mode to erase a second.
Fritz earns a third opportunity with a beastly forehand but then slices long on the defence.
Carlitos swoops into the net to take charge with a crosscourt volley and then eventually consolidates via the scenic route with another surge forward to rush an error.

Will that be curtains for Team World?
Fritz is cruising at 40-0 but it all starts to go wrong when Alcaraz adds extra zip to a deep forehand to gain traction in the game.
The Spaniard hits deuce by turning elastic defence into attack with a scorching backhand down the line before teeing up another break point with a sensational drop-shot from his baseline.
It’s all too much for Taylor, who buckles under the constant pressure with a leaky forehand.
Team Europe just took another step towards that trophy…

There’s just been a great chat with Ben Shelton courtside with a snappy soundbite about Alcaraz.
The American says Alcaraz is picking up shots from his shoe-laces ‘like ’05 Federer right now.’
He’s not wrong either as the Spaniard elegantly sizzles a backhand belter down the line en route to another clinic of a love hold.
