CARNEY, HARGREAVES FEEL RESULTS MUST SOON COME FOR UNITED
Pressure is already starting to mount at Old Trafford after a tough start to the 2024/25 campaign.
TNT Sports football experts Carney and Hargreaves feel results need to come soon for Erik ten Hag.

ELSEWHERE TONIGHT
In the Carabao Cup, Arsenal dismissed League One side Bolton Wanderers 5-1, with 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri scoring twice. Declan Rice and Kai Havertz were also on target, while Raheem Sterling scored his first goal in Arsenal colours.
Liverpool also triumphed 5-1, downing West Ham, who continue their torrid start to life under Julen Lopetegui.

FROM THE OTHER SIDE
Goalscorer Lammers feels FC Twente could have made matters even worse for United, pointing out gaps in the home side on the counter-attack.

10:36 PM
HIGHLIGHTS: MANCHESTER UNITED 1-1 FC TWENTE
Manchester United were frustrated in their UEFA Europa League opener against FC Twente at Old Trafford.
Christian Eriksen opened the scoring with a sublime effort in the first half, but was caught in possession as United were decimated by a blistering Twente attack in the second half, which saw Sam Lammers fire home beyond Andre Onana at his near post.
Lisandro Martinez had an opportunity for a late-winner, but couldn't work his effort past an inspired Lars Unnerstall as United had to settle for a point.

TEN HAG SPEAKS AFTER TWENTE DRAW
"We kept them alive," he said. "We were 1-0 up, controlling the game, you have to be consistent, keep going in the second half, we dropped a level and gave a goal away."
"We didn't finish it off, we had to go for the second goal, so they stay alive and we get punished with a mistake from ourselves.
"The goal, if a player from Twente can dribble the whole pitch without stopping... we can't give a goal away like this."

10:22 PM
HARGREAVES, CARNEY REACT TO ERIKSEN INTERVIEW
TNT Sports football experts Owen Hargreaves and Karen Carney reacted to Eriksen's post-match interview, in which he said it looked like FC Twente "wanted it more" than Manchester United.
Hargreaves said: "He's right, it's not good enough. At home, 1-1 against a side like Twente you expect them to win the game, and they didn't get the job done."
Carney added: "To hear that, the other team wanted it more, you can't have that. That's unacceptable isn't it really. You're at home, you should want it more. You're 1-0 up, you have to be ruthless. I didn't see a ruthless edge from United tonight."

ERIKSEN ON TWENTE'S DESIRE
Christian Eriksen has said FC Twente "looked like they wanted it more" than Manchester United as Erik ten Hag's side slipped to a 1-1 draw against the Eredivisie outfit.

CARNEY LAMENTS 'HUGE SYSTEM ERROR' FOR TWENTE EQUALISER
Much will be made of Eriksen's mistake leading to Lammers' equaliser for FC Twente, but TNT Sports football expert Carney believes the goal came from more fundamental errors with the way the team is set up.
Instead, Carney was bewildered by Bart van Rooij's ability to drive through heart of the United midfield and defence.
"It came from a goal kick. That actually is a dead ball situation. This is a system error. When he can run through three, four players you jump in, the space is there, your two centre backs are out. OK, it falls to Eriksen, I think he's worried about passing it back, and doesn't check his shoulders.
"But from a goal kick, to go from their goal kick to run through the heart of your team, and to get an equaliser for me is a huge system error. And its more than Eriksen's mistake, that's a huge system error from Manchester United."

TNT SPORTS EXPERTS REACT TO MAN UTD DRAW
Owen Hargreaves: "(FC Twente deserved it) especially in the second half. I thought they were really positive, trying to play.... United just didn't have that killer instinct in the second half. Their fans have been brilliant at OT.
"That's a brilliant point for Twente, but I just think for United, that's a bit of a missed opportunity. They should have won that game. If they had kept pushing like in the first half, they would have."
Karen Carney: "I remember ending the half-time chat saying they (United) were in control. It was steady and they had a threat from Marcus Rashford, so I was surprised when they took him (off)."
She added: "It's a great start for them (Twente) in this competition."

SO CLOSE TO A LATE LEAD FOR UNITED!
United nearly salvage all three points as Harry Maguire's header from a corner is flicked towards goal by Lisandro Martinez.
But a fantastic, reaction save from Unnerstall denies the hosts!
And that'll be all the action from Old Trafford tonight. United have to settle for a point. Twente put in a great display, but the hosts will be greatly disappointed to not open their Europa League account with a win.

SUBSTITUTE NOSLIN OFF AFTER THREE MINUTES
He's only been on the pitch three minutes. Has he even touched the ball? He definitely touched the face of Vladyslav Dubinchak, elbowed it in fact! And he's been given his marching orders.

TEN HAG OPTS FOR MORE CHANGES
Eriksen's mistake for the goal sees him quickly hauled off for Kobbie Mainoo.
Mason Mount enters the fray, alongside Rasmus Hojlund, who is easing back into action after suffering an injury in the off-season.
Zirkzee and Rashford make way. A thoroughly decent display from the latter.
