Jamie Bynoe-Gittens could be the latest English player to follow in the footsteps of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho at Signal Iduna Park after his electric performance off the bench for Borussia Dortmund in their UEFA Champions League win over Club Brugge. The 20-year-old scored a brace and has been dubbed as “the electricity” at the club. "You're the young one now. What have you got?"

Jamie Gittens has been tipped as “the electricity” and “the excitement” in a new-look Borussia Dortmund side after firing his team ahead with two late goals in the club’s UEFA Champions League opener.
The German outfit sealed a 3-0 win over Club Brugge, helped by a stunning brace from Gittens before Serhou Guirassy added gloss to the scoreline with an injury-time penalty.
Gittens, 20, is the latest English talent to emerge at Dortmund after the likes of Jude Bellingham and Jadon Sancho experienced similar pathways as they their European careers at Signal Iduna Park.
Following Gittens’ five-star showing on Wednesday, the question has been put to the winger whether or not he can replicate Bellingham and Sancho’s route to stardom.
“He’s been building to this,” New York Times’ Chief Soccer Correspondent Rory Smith said of Gittens on TNT Sports.
“Bellingham is kind of a different case, because Bellingham, went to Dortmund almost as a first-team player immediately after he had already done a year at Birmingham [City].
“He was a kind of different class. Gittens felt like he always needed a bit more time. He’s done well the last two years, had moments and been a kind of impact sub, that’s the way you think of him.
“Now that Dortmund have had this big clearout, [Jadon] Sancho’s gone, [Ian] Maatsen’s gone, [Marco] Reus has gone. This is a new Dortmund and actually a more experienced Dortmund. A lot of the signings they made in the summer were good, solid Bundesliga stalwarts.
“Gittens, I guess now is the excitement. He's the electricity. That's what Nuri Sahin will use him for. Here you go. You're the young one now. What have you got?”
Gittens joined Dortmund’s youth set-up in 2022 after spells at the Chelsea, Manchester City and Reading academies in England.
Since making his breakthrough onto the first team scene the year he joined the club, Gittens has made 62 appearances, scored seven goals and provided nine assists.
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole believes that the Dortmund pathway is an ideal option for any young English player to learn their trade.

“Talking to people out in Germany, they want to take the best young players in England,” he told TNT Sports. “There’s a pathway.
“Imagine the best 16-year-old in the country now who’s thinking ‘Should I sign for Chelsea? Arsenal? Manchester United? Manchester City?’
“[If] Borussia Dortmund’s on the table he’ll think Sancho, Gittens. It’s a pathway they offer.”
