Rafael Nadal is in line for a return to the court after being selected in Spain's squad for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Davis Cup.
The 22-time Grand Slam winner will compete alongside Wimbledon champion Carlos Alcaraz as well as compatriots Pablo Carreno Busta, Marcel Granollers and Roberto Bautista Agut when the last-eight clash with Netherlands gets underway in November.
Nadal last competed at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where he represented Spain in the men's doubles alongside world No. 3 Alcaraz.
Nadal and Alcaraz reached the quarter-finals but were eliminated by Austin Krajicek and Rajeev Ram.
The 38-year-old also competed in the men's singles in Paris, where he was eliminated by eventual winner Novak Djokovic.
Nadal's nation will face a tough test against Netherlands when the Davis Cup returns in November.
Spain reached the quarter-finals after finishing top of Group B in the opening stage, while Netherlands progressed with a second-placed finish in Group A.
Nadal was forced to withdraw from the 2024 US Open, stating that he would not be able to give 100% at the Grand Slam in a post on social media.

He also missed out on the 2024 Laver Cup, insisting that it would be best for the team if he stepped aside.
"To really support Team Europe, I need to do what’s best for them and at this moment there are other players who can help the team deliver the win," Nadal said.
The Spaniard has won the Davis Cup four times in his legendary career. The two-time Olympic gold medallist won the tournament in 2004, 2009, 2011 and 2019.
