Jannik Sinner conceded recent weeks had been "not easy" after he avoided a ban for testing positive for the metabolite of a banned substance, but on Sunday he celebrated a second Grand Slam victory of the year. The 23-year-old Italian beat Taylor Fritz in straight sets in New York to lift the US Open title, following on from his triumph in January's Australian Open.

Highlights: Sinner beats Fritz to claim US Open title

Jannik Sinner said he was hoping for more success after beating Taylor Fritz in the US Open final on Sunday.
The Italian won 6-3 6-4 7-5 in a relatively straightforward showpiece match in the United States.
Sinner, who recently avoided a ban after returning adverse drugs test results, secured his second Grand Slam title of the year with victory in New York in a tournament where he was rarely pushed to the limit by any opponent.
He already holds this season’s Australian Open title, won at the start of the year.
The 23-year-old world No. 1 has also claimed the Rotterdam Open, Miami Open, Halle Open and the Cincinnati Open so far in the current campaign.
Speaking in his post-victory interview, Sinner reflected on his consistent success over the season so far.
He said: "We went day-by-day, trying to practise well and believing. I understood, especially in this tournament, how important the mental part is.
“So many big wins for me this season. Starting with Australia and playing so well there gave me confidence until now.
“The work never stops. I know I can still improve. As we saw today, a couple of things. You have to be proud of what you have. The rest, you have to go for it and work for it.”
Hinting at the stress his recent off-court troubles have caused, he said: "This title means so much; the last period of my career was not easy.
"There is my team who supports me every day, the people who are close to me.”
Speaking on court after his defeat, Fritz apologised for his failure to land the title for his home country, but aimed to go one step further in 2025.

He said: "It's been an amazing two weeks and first off, congrats to Jannik. He played a great match. Congrats to his team. It's really impressive. He was too good, it's amazing.
"Being an American at the US Open is just incredible, feeling the love all week. Thank you so much.
"I know we have been waiting for a champion for a long time, so I'm sorry I couldn't get it done this time, but I'm going to keep working, and hopefully, I'll get it done next time, so thank you."
