The Tour de France Femmes enters its final stage on Sunday and there is still plenty on the line ahead of the finish line in Alpe d’Huez. Kasia Niewiadoma has the yellow jersey and is the favourite to win the general classification, but Demi Vollering has recovered from her earlier crash to put herself back in contention. After all the suffering and persistence, the Tour de France Femmes will come to a conclusion on Sunday.

And there promises to be plenty of drama on Stage 8, the most gruelling of all the routes so far. The riders will tackle over 4,000 metres of elevation gain across a 149.9km stage, starting at Le Grand-Bornand and finishing at altitude in Alpe d’Huez.

It looks set to be a memorable fight to the finish in the general classification, with Kasia Niewiadoma currently leading the way, 23 seconds ahead of Puck Pieterse.

Demi Vollering, who has worked her way back admirably after a nasty crash on Stage 5, remains in contention and looks in good shape to challenge until the end.

She will be determined to defend her crown and to give Niewiadoma a tough day. The likes of Cedrine Kerbaol, Juliette Labous and Thalita de Jong will all have aspirations of success, too.

While the fight for the yellow jersey will be the focus, Marianne Vos is set to win the green jersey in impressive style.

Justine Ghekiere is on course to be crowned Queen of the Mountains after a superb Stage 7 performance, and Pieterse, if she cannot take yellow, should at least finish with the white jersey as the best young rider.

Coverage of Stage 8 gets underway at 15:00 UK time on Sunday, August 18.

There will be pre- and post-race analysis of the final day on The Breakaway, presented by Laura Winter alongside pundits Dani Rowe and Dani Christmas.
